Important Message To The Public, 2015, 14 min. DCP
Commissioned by the Swedish Television and The Swedish Film Institute Important Message To The Public (VMA–Viktigt meddelande till allmänheten) is a new surrealistic activist film in production by Bigert & Bergström.
The film borrows its title from the emergency sirens of Sweden that are suppose to warn the public of an alarming accident or approaching foreign attack.
In a time when the public discussion has been reduced to rhetoric that no one listens to, it is time for a call-out. The film records a week where every morning begins in the same way. Bigert & Bergström are woken up in their specially retooled ambulance by different groups of people in emergent need of assistance. With flashing orange lights Bigert & Bergström drives away with the people helping them to stage performances, health treatments and deliveries of life supporting art.
The main question is if the general public could make their voices heard using the language of art? And if these methods can shape an alternative path to gain attention from their political leaders, as well as from their fellow citizens?
The film will premiere in the spring of 2015.
