This year, the Thiel Gallery celebrates 100 years as a museum. The celebration begins with the exhibition Together, which is based on the fact that the Thiel Gallery is the result of collective efforts. This, of course, applies to the founders, Ernest and Signe Maria Thiel, who built the art collection together, but also to many of the artists they supported, several of whom found community and strength in the Swedish Artists’ Society (Konstnärsförbundet). It also concerns the location: the Thiel Gallery was a meeting place for the art scene of the time, hosting parties and dinners.

The exhibition Together uses the place and the time in which the Thiel Gallery was created as a starting point to also reflect on our own time—and perhaps the future. Therefore, we are inviting several artists who, in various ways, address the question of what “togetherness” means today. What does it mean to create together? What does it mean to make art for a specific place? Which other aspects of “togetherness” are important today? This brings us to larger questions about the role of art in today’s society. It’s about humanity, the environment, and more-than-human relationships.

To gain perspective on these questions, Thiel Gallery invited four contemporary artist duos: Bigert & Bergström, Linda Pedersen and Henning Hamilton, Bella Rune and Jonas Nobel, Martin Bergström and Thomas Klementsson.
