Gallery Stroll
1986

Gallery Stroll is Bigert & Bergström’s first joint work, created to serve as a farewell ritual for graduating students at the Royal Institute of Art. A slideshow displayed the artists dressed in peculiar rubber tailcoats going around Stockholm’s galleries and ceremoniously greeting important figures in the art world, who, taken by surprise, shake hands with the unexpected guests—a playful commentary with sarcastic undertones on the newly graduated artists’ future hopes and fears, but also an illumination of the art world as a strictly regulated social system whose rules you must learn to follow in order to succeed.
