The Metro—In Step with the Times / Tunnelbanan—i takt med tiden
Transport Museum, Stockholm
01.10.2025—31.12.2026

The Transport Museum´s group exhibition The Metro – In Step with the Times focuses on Stockholm’s subway as in 2024 marks its 75th anniversary.

The Metro is much more than just a way of transportation; it is also an arena and an expression of society’s values, history and social dynamics. It is a place where the ordinary and extraordinary meet, where art, movement and human interactions create a special rhythm.

Welcome to the amazing world of the Metro and an exhibition that tells the story of the Stockholm Metro as a way of transportation and as a cultural phenomenon.

Bigert & Bergström is featured in the exhibition with their film Tunnel Vision (2008, HD, 27.30 min), shown as a single-channel version. Originally, the film was displayed as a four-channel film installation at Skanstull subway station in 2028. Tunnel Vision depicts fourteen subway drivers as they travel through the tunnels of Stockholm. At each station, they switch places, and their personal stories are dissolved into one another. Like a train of thoughts, the associative structure of the film creates a dream-like underground landscape, where the driver’s inner ideas are seen in the dim light of the surrounding tunnels.
