Mirage
2009
A pixelated palm tree on a small island, form the work Mirage. Made out of thousands of little plastic cubes, it creates a fuzzy jitters, which gives the piece an aura of physical unsharpness. The strategy to impose anonymity on digital images through pixelation is here stretched out into three dimensional space. And the sculpture is hovering in mid air between depiction and abstraction – like a mirage on a hot dessert day.
Mirage is a permanent installation at the Gävle Art Centre in the north of Sweden.
